It seems these days that there are literally thousands of dog training methodsits easy to get mixed up amongst all the fuss. In this brief article, I’ll uncover what I believe are some of the Secret to Dog Training.
You can be forgiven for thinking that all these dog training methods are different, they are spun using any number of fancy marketing terms. The truth is, they all have one thing in common – that’s the use of positive reinforcement.
Secret number 1:
The 1st secret I want you to know is this: Puppies learn faster than mature dogs. SO – teach your dog while its young if possible. If your dog is no longer a puppy don’t despair. Consistency and persistence will still get you good results.
Secret Number 2:
When training your dog, be firm but fair. Try to get to a level where you can understand your dog. To do this you will need to be compassionate and loving towards your dog. Treat your dog with respect, have fun with it, and it will reward you 1000 times over.
Secret Number 3:
Don’t wait for a problem to arise. Teach your dog from a young age what is good behaviour so that you never need to correct bad behaviour! This is a great way to avoid unneeded behaviour problems.
The best way to train your dog is to stick to the basics. The same fundamentals underline every single dog training regime I’ve ever seen so don’t go hunting for magic bulletsyou wont find them. Be consistent, persistent and enjoy time with your dog.
